• Take full ownership of the Azure Fabric architecture from start to finish: including workspace topology, OneLake/Iceberg storage strategy, separation of dev/test/prod environments, capacity sizing, and governance.
• Lead a team of four (Data Architect, two Data Engineers, Business Analyst) through a six-month build process.
• Define the Bronze, Silver, and Semantic layered architecture, culminating in a Gold semantic schema articulated in AvonRisk business terminology to ensure reports, dashboards, and AI models remain intact during future claims-platform migrations.
• Oversee the validation of Fabric Mirroring for our claims system and design the ADF fallback strategy where Mirroring is not feasible.
• Design a multi-tenant PHI security architecture: including a client-segregated PHI workspace and a masked cross-tenant analytics layer, incorporating RLS and secure data sharing for client portal access.
• Establish a customer-facing analytics portal (either Power BI Embedded or Fabric-native) with a pilot involving over 10 clients operational by the end of Month 6.
• Create a data catalog, lineage, data quality, and governance framework using Microsoft Purview and Fabric-native tools.
• Manage the platform as a permanent capability — ensuring uptime, performance, capacity, and cost-effectiveness.
• Integrate additional source systems as AvonRisk expands through acquisitions and new programs.
• Develop the foundational AI/ML features that will support our agent roadmap.
• Work closely with product developers, claims operations, and client-facing teams to ensure the semantic model aligns with business requirements.
• A minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in data platform work, with at least 3 years focused on a modern cloud lakehouse or warehouse (Fabric, Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Synapse).
• Preferred experience in production Azure Fabric; alternatively, significant Azure data experience (Synapse, ADF, ADLS Gen 2, Power BI Premium) and a credible plan to rapidly learn Fabric in the first week.
• In-depth knowledge of Power BI semantic modeling — including DAX, dataset design, Direct Lake mode, and Row-Level Security.
• A modern data engineering approach: proficiency in DBT (or equivalent tools such as SQLMesh, Coalesce) for transformation engineering; experience in data testing frameworks (dbt tests, Great Expectations); familiarity with ADF, Fabric Pipelines, or similar orchestration tools; CI/CD practices for data; infrastructure as code (Bicep / Terraform); and Git-based workflows for analytics coding.
• Strong understanding of dimensional modeling — knowing when to denormalize, conform, or delay actions.
• Strategic thinking in data product development.
• Exceptional written communication skills.
• Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
• Company contributions to Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) plans.
• Employer-sponsored life and disability insurance.
• 401(k) plan with employer matching.
• Paid time off (PTO) along with company-paid holidays.
• Opportunities for learning and development that facilitate genuine career advancement.
• Access to employee assistance resources and a culture that prioritizes balance and well-being.
