Data Scientist, Fraud

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Develop, assess, and assist in the creation of machine learning models aimed at fraud detection; manage their continuous monitoring and retraining processes.

• Design and execute experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of fraud interventions, ensuring a balance between customer experience and loss mitigation.

• Analyze fraud typologies across our product offerings to guide prioritization and investment strategies.

• Create and sustain anomaly detection systems to identify new fraud vectors before they escalate.

• Collaborate closely with fraud operations, engineers, product managers, and data analysts to convert model outputs into actionable real-world solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• A robust background in statistics with a degree in a quantitative discipline (Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field).

• Over 3 years of experience in data science, decision science, or risk analytics, particularly in the areas of fraud, payments, or financial crime.

• Practical experience in developing and deploying machine learning models within a production setting.

• Experience in fraud, risk, or financial services is highly advantageous.

• Strong understanding of data science principles: experimentation, statistical inference, model evaluation, and feature engineering.

• Ability to thrive in fast-paced, cross-functional teams with high expectations for ownership.
