This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.
• Direct the design and advancement of our primary data architecture encompassing transactional, analytical, and long-term storage systems.
• Take ownership of and enhance PostgreSQL data design, schema organization, indexing strategies, query performance, relationships, constraints, and data integrity.
• Create, evaluate, and sustain ERDs and data models that effectively depict business logic, system behavior, and domain relationships.
• Collaborate closely with backend engineers to guarantee that application data models are scalable, consistent, and appropriate for both operational and analytical scenarios.
• Construct and enhance data pipelines from production environments into analytics databases and reporting layers.
• Devise dependable methods for data ingestion, replication, transformation, validation, rollups, aggregations, and historical storage.
• Assist in defining the optimal architecture for hot, warm, and cold data storage.
• Facilitate the design of analytics-friendly datasets for reporting, dashboards, product analytics, finance, compliance, and operational monitoring.
• Contribute to the evolution of our analytics database strategy, focusing on the use of analytical stores, materialized views, denormalized tables, and aggregation layers.
• Establish data modeling best practices throughout the engineering team.
• Detect and resolve data quality issues, including inconsistent schemas, duplicated logic, missing relationships, poor naming conventions, and unreliable reporting sources.
• Partner with backend, product, DevOps, and leadership teams to translate business requirements into clear, scalable data structures.
• Define best practices for migrations, data retention, archival processes, backfills, and the safe deletion of production data.
• Guide engineers in database design, ERDs, data modeling, and data pipeline methodologies.
• Significant professional experience in data engineering, data architecture, backend engineering, or a closely related field.
• Profound knowledge of PostgreSQL, including schema design, indexing, query planning, constraints, normalization, denormalization, migrations, and performance optimization.
• Strong grasp of ERDs and relational data modeling principles.
• Proven experience in designing clean, scalable data models for intricate business domains.
• Background in working with analytical databases, reporting databases, OLAP systems, or data warehouses.
• Experience in constructing or maintaining data pipelines from production systems to analytics/reporting systems.
• Comprehensive understanding of data quality, data consistency, data validation, and historical data management.
• Ability to assess trade-offs between normalized transactional models and denormalized analytical models.
• Experience collaborating with backend engineers and understanding the impact of application architecture on data architecture.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex data structures to both technical and non-technical audiences.
