This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Collaborate closely with the Director of Data to convert the platform's vision into actionable engineering execution.
• Spearhead the design and deployment of Kimball-style dimensional models and star schema architectures, transitioning legacy data systems to a modern, scalable infrastructure.
• Take ownership of data hygiene standards across the platform — proactively identifying, documenting, and addressing data quality issues.
• Design, construct, and maintain high-quality data pipelines with an emphasis on reliability, observability, and maintainability.
• Develop and advocate for best practices in data modeling, transformation, and testing within the engineering team.
• Facilitate the extraction and documentation of business logic from existing systems into well-defined, portable, cloud-agnostic layers.
• Work collaboratively with analysts, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure that data models fulfill both current reporting demands and future platform needs.
• Offer technical guidance and mentorship to Data Engineer I team members.
• Participate in architectural decision-making and design reviews, providing a well-founded, opinionated perspective on the platform's direction.
• Enhance and support documentation standards to ensure that the codebase and data platform are comprehensible across the team.
• Over 5 years of experience in data engineering, showcasing a proven ability to manage and deliver complex data platform projects.
• Extensive knowledge in dimensional modeling, particularly with Kimball methodology and star/snowflake schema design.
• Experience in leading or significantly contributing to data warehouse migrations or platform modernization initiatives.
• Advanced skills in SQL and Python; capable of writing production-quality, thoroughly tested, maintainable code.
• Strong proficiency in dbt, including advanced functionalities like custom tests, macros, packages, and documentation generation.
• Practical experience with Snowflake & Redshift and modern data stack tools.
• A methodical, principled approach to data quality — with experience in implementing data hygiene frameworks, validation pipelines, and monitoring systems.
• Capability to work independently and propel projects forward in ambiguous or evolving problem areas.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical decisions to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• A passion for leveraging technical skills for social impact and the ability to excel in a cross-functional, mission-driven environment.
