CTO, Hands-on, Rust, Startup Experience

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Define and oversee the long-term technical architecture of the platform.

• Spearhead backend architecture and infrastructure strategy utilizing Rust-based systems.

• Assist in the development of scalable systems that support feeds, messaging, live updates, video, and data infrastructure.

• Supervise engineering direction across backend, frontend, infrastructure, and product systems.

• Collaborate closely with leadership on product and organizational strategy.

• Establish an engineering culture, set hiring standards, and implement technical execution processes.

• Engage directly with engineers on architecture reviews, trade-offs, and implementation choices.

• Contribute to the design of future financial infrastructure which includes rewards, wallets, payments, and crypto-related systems.

• Support AI-driven systems encompassing translation, recommendation, search, and football history infrastructure.

• Ensure scalability, reliability, performance, and security across all systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7–15+ years of experience in software engineering and technical leadership, preferably in startups or rapidly growing consumer technology platforms.

• Strong hands-on engineering experience with active participation in architecture, systems design, and production codebases.

• Extensive experience in building and scaling modern consumer platforms that involve real-time systems, high concurrency, and significant user engagement.

• Proficient production experience with Rust in developing asynchronous backend systems and distributed infrastructure.

• Comprehensive understanding of backend architecture, APIs, event-driven systems, databases, caching, and scalable infrastructure design.

• Experience in building or operating one or more of the following: social feeds and microblogging systems, messaging or real-time communication platforms, TikTok-style video or media infrastructure, financial systems, wallet, fintech or gambling infrastructure, AI-driven consumer products, or large-scale SEO and content infrastructure.

• Ability to make practical technical trade-offs, balancing scalability, performance, speed, maintainability, and operational simplicity.

• Proven experience in leading and mentoring engineering teams while remaining deeply technical and hands-on.

• Comfortable working in fast-paced startup environments with ambiguity, shifting priorities, and limited processes.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate architectural decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Strong entrepreneurial judgment, ownership mentality, and focus on execution.
