This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Accountable for the prompt and precise coding necessary for reimbursement and data gathering.
• Oversees the daily activities of coding and support personnel.
• Conducts timely prebill reviews and audits of patient medical records (primarily inpatient) and accurately captures the final DRG for each evaluation.
• Evaluates clinical data of inpatients, current treatments, and medical history to identify potential deficiencies in physician documentation.
• Analyzes and reports trends to uncover opportunities for enhancement in coding and documentation practices.
• Ensures accuracy in coding and abstracting by performing both quantitative and qualitative assessments.
• Interacts with physicians or other providers to confirm diagnoses, clinical indicators, and appropriately prompts for documentation in alignment with AHIMA/ACDIS best practice query principles, as needed, either verbally or in writing.
• Adheres to industry best practice coding standards in compliance with CMS, AHIMA, AHA, AAPC, and AMA guidelines.
• Develops educational materials and provides training to physicians, coders, and other key healthcare professionals on clinical documentation improvement and the importance of accurate and complete documentation in health records.
• Trains and audits entry-level coders or those being introduced to a new discipline.
• RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification, or equivalent certification/degree.
• College credits in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• A minimum of three years of coding experience in a Health Information Management Department or equivalent.
• Experience in implementing and maintaining computer systems.
