This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Accurately and promptly assign ICD-10-CM/PCS and HCPCS/CPT codes, along with payment group classifications and abstracted data for reimbursement and statistical analysis.
• Analyze and interpret records from inpatient, outpatient, ancillary, diagnostic, emergency medicine, and other patient sources.
• Conduct coding and abstraction to enhance billing, data quality, statistical reporting, severity of illness, and risk of mortality metrics.
• Adhere to UHDDS definitions, CMS regulations, and both official and internal coding standards.
• Utilize diagnostic reports, lab results, physician orders, and medication documentation to accurately code patient charts.
• Complete daily assignments and operate within the relevant service-line structures.
• Guide and mentor junior coders and those training in new coding disciplines.
• Abstract and sequence diagnosis and procedure codes, inputting data into the coding and abstraction system.
• Utilize the coding system for communication, managing account holds, inquiries, and clarifications.
• Collaborate with Coding Management to ensure precise code assignment during chart reviews.
• Provide coded and abstracted data for final coding and billing while meeting productivity benchmarks.
• Review and amend prepopulated patient demographic and abstracted data within the coding system.
• Calculate inpatient encounters using MS-DRG and APR-DRG groupers.
• Sequence CPT codes employing APC grouper methodologies.
• Submit daily productivity updates.
• Participate in coding and departmental meetings, training sessions, seminars, and workshops.
• Report discrepancies regarding patient identification, accounts, encounters, documentation, and medical records.
• Assist with special coding projects.
• Support coding and billing system testing, report reconciliation, and other IT projects.
• Contribute to revenue-cycle objectives by managing aged coding accounts and coding-system reports and queues.
• CCS credential is mandatory.
• A college degree in Health Information Management, completion of an AHIMA Approved Certificate Program, or one year of coding experience in an acute care environment is essential.
• Acute care coding experience must encompass inpatient, observation, emergency medicine, or same-day surgery coding if following the experience pathway.
• An Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Technology is preferred.
• A combination of education and experience may be considered as a substitute.
• Proficient in accurately assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS and HCPCS/CPT codes.
• Familiarity with UHDDS definitions, CMS regulations, and both official and internal coding guidelines.
• Competent in using coding and abstracting systems, MS-DRG, APR-DRG, and APC grouper methodologies.
• Capable of meeting productivity and accuracy metrics.
• Ability to produce timely, precise, and concise productivity reports.
• Skilled in identifying discrepancies in patient records, documentation, accounts, and encounters.
• Capable of supporting coding system testing, report reconciliation, and revenue cycle activities.
