This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +3 more states.
• Accountable for coding and abstracting inpatient accounts in line with established coding guidelines.
• Accurately assigns diagnostic and procedure codes based on clinical documentation and official coding standards for inpatient hospital accounts.
• Collaborates with clinical documentation and quality teams to ensure that the validation of Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Group (MSDRG), patient safety indicators, and hospital-acquired conditions are backed by physician documentation to facilitate correct coding.
• Oversees assigned work queues to guarantee that all records are charged promptly.
• Creates coding queries for clarification on physician documentation when necessary.
• Keeps updated on all changes in coding conventions and revisions.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
• Associate's degree or equivalent experience.
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
• Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) - American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) - American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
• Regular lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive movements of feet/legs and hands/arms.
• Regular use of vision and depth perception for both near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances, as well as for identifying and distinguishing colors.
• Frequent use of hearing and speech for effective oral communication.
• Capability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
• Regular keyboard use and data entry.
• Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping.
• Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
