This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Functions as an on-call professional, delivering consistent and comprehensive oversight of all organ donation operations, which include donor referral triage, authorization, management, organ allocation, recovery, and post-mortem care. Responsible for guiding the plan of care and ensuring that all case activities are conducted effectively and efficiently.
• Ensures regulatory oversight and verification of critical elements such as hemodilution, death notes, and PHS Increased Risk assessments.
• Works in collaboration with the DNW Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to establish and maintain donor case plans while interacting with physician consultations as needed.
• Provides guidance to staff in navigating operational challenges through mentoring, talking points, and on-site assistance.
• Offers on-site support for staff and operations during procedures and addresses critical staffing needs (e.g., DCD lead, donor management).
• Collaborates with the management team to guide staff development initiatives.
• Leads organ operations, quality assurance, and performance improvement initiatives, identifying trends and opportunities for enhancement in partnership with the Chief Medical Officer and Clinical Educator.
• Partners with the CMO to create and uphold evidence-based clinical management guidelines for donors.
• Works with regional management to identify, develop, and execute regional strategies for clinical and hospital education, including participation in donor councils, grand rounds, staff meetings, and other educational events.
• Responsible for the identification and execution of engagement strategies for transplant center (TXC) stakeholders. Acts as the primary contact for TXC concerns, leads root cause analyses, proposes improvement plans, and implements changes to address identified opportunities for enhancement. Engages stakeholders in abdominal and thoracic transplant program quality meetings and collaborates to develop resources for infectious disease consulting, echo core diagnostic groups, DNW case plans, timing reviews, and overall performance improvement.
• Collaborates with the Research Program Director to evaluate and implement research initiatives, especially those concentrated on prospective donor management trials.
• Works alongside the referral management team to ensure adequate resource allocation and process improvements.
• Participates in and leads donor performance improvement meetings (QAPI, MAB, educational forum, etc.).
• Undertakes additional responsibilities and projects as assigned.
• Advanced understanding of human anatomy and medical terminology, organ perfusion, strong decision-making skills, and excellent communication abilities to effectively interact with Donor Network West employees, Transplant Center staff, donor hospital personnel, and donor family members.
• Ability to establish and adhere to deadlines.
• Competent in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
• Capable of building relationships with various researchers, physicians, and research organizations to provide options for research and therapy donations.
