This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Act as the main relationship manager for 1–3 client projects at the same time.
• Build and maintain client trust at the operational level — know your stakeholders, comprehend their business, and be the go-to person when issues arise.
• Ensure alignment between client expectations and the actual capabilities of Very.
• Raise issues early with suggested solutions — avoid letting problems become unexpected surprises.
• Take responsibility for the profitability of your projects — understand margins, oversee burn rates, and proactively identify risks.
• Draft and negotiate Statements of Work for new phases and follow-up engagements.
• Spot and capitalize on expansion opportunities within current accounts.
• Engage in the sales process for new opportunities.
• Be accountable for the overall health of delivery on your projects — including scope, schedule, and quality.
• Make confident tradeoff decisions; present solutions, not just issues.
• For smaller projects (≤ $250–400K, single workstream, small team): manage the project cadence yourself — including standups, sprint planning, and milestone reviews.
• For larger projects: collaborate with a Project Manager who handles execution; focus on steering, scope management, and client strategy.
• Mentor team members on the principles of working in a client services organization — including communication, expectation management, and escalation.
• Set the standard for how Very interacts with clients.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent practical experience) with prior experience as a practicing engineer.
• Sufficient technical fluency to gain respect from engineering teams and translate client needs into actionable scopes.
• Over 5 years of experience in client services, technical program management, or a delivery-facing position at a technology consulting or product firm.
• Proven track record of owning client relationships — not merely supporting them.
• Ability to independently write and negotiate Statements of Work.
• Experience in managing project budgets and financial metrics.
• Exceptional communication skills — written, verbal, and interpersonal; capable of presenting to executives and leading challenging discussions.
• Strongly preferred experience with IoT, connected hardware, or complex technical product development.
• Preferred background in electronics hardware, firmware, or embedded systems product development.
• Previous experience working directly with contract manufacturers.
• Experience in a pre-sales or solutions engineering role.
• At least 3 years in a consultancy or client services environment.
• 401(k) matching.
• Monthly stipend of $250 for cell phone and internet expenses.
• Annual home office stipend of $600.
• Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
• Paid parental leave (ranked in the 95th percentile in the U.S.).
• Professional development stipend.
• Loaned MacBook Pro.
• Annual team retreat.
