Chief Compliance Officer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Oversee and manage AeroVironment’s comprehensive compliance program, which includes the ethics program and supervision of compliance activities.

• Establish short-term priorities and a long-term compliance strategy to identify and address compliance risks.

• Chair the Compliance Council and participate in the Enterprise Risk Committee.

• Offer compliance guidance and mentorship to various business units and functional areas.

• Promote a culture rooted in integrity and ethical conduct.

• Conduct compliance risk assessments and facilitate necessary corrective actions.

• Enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the compliance program.

• Provide strategic assistance for compliance audits.

• Carry out investigations alongside subject matter experts and the Legal Department.

• Manage corrective action plans and remediation efforts.

• Ensure that documentation and recordkeeping adhere to regulatory standards.

• Create, implement, and enforce compliance policies and procedures.

• Oversee company compliance training programs and track training metrics.

• Deliver periodic compliance-program reports to the executive team, Board of Directors, and relevant committees.

• Monitor regulatory changes and adjust internal policies and procedures as needed.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required.

• A Juris Doctor (JD) or an advanced degree is preferred.

• 20 years of compliance, legal, or regulatory experience within the U.S. defense industry.

• Proven leadership and team management experience.

• An active Top Secret//SCI clearance is mandatory.

• Willingness to travel to company offices across the U.S. and internationally.

• U.S. citizenship is required.

• Must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR/EAR or be eligible for export-license approval.

• Strong understanding of SOX, FAR/DFARS, anti-corruption laws, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, False Claims Act, Truth in Negotiations Act, CMMC, ITAR, and EAR.

• Extensive experience in supporting a global compliance function, ideally within a U.S. publicly traded Department of Defense contractor.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to communicate effectively with personnel at all levels of the organization, including executive leadership and the Board of Directors.

• Capacity to work independently while collaborating with in-house counsel, functional teams, and leadership.

• Proficiency in developing and executing complex strategies that align with business objectives.

• Experience in building relationships with regulators, compliance professionals, and senior leaders.

• Outstanding organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and interpersonal abilities.

• Proven experience in cross-functional collaboration.

• Ability to sit, stand, stoop, reach, lift up to 10 lbs., bend, and operate a computer.
