This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Participate in a comprehensive full-time training program for new Investigators lasting 6–7 weeks, both virtually and in person, to achieve certification in the Federal Investigative Standards.
• Engage in daily travel for in-person background investigations to assess the employment suitability of individuals requiring access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information.
• Plan and conduct face-to-face interviews with subjects, as well as their neighbors, employers, friends, and family members.
• Execute record searches at various police agencies, courthouses, educational institutions, financial institutions, and medical/mental health facilities.
• Accurately type and document the gathered information clearly and concisely within a government-issued computer system.
• Operate independently, collaborate as part of an Investigator team, and coordinate with a Field Manager.
• A minimum of 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree may be considered.
• Prior experience in conducting federal background investigations is preferred.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
• An active federal background investigation with a T5 adjudication is preferred.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the San Jose city center.
• Daily local and outside-area travel may be required as needed.
• A home office setup is necessary.
• Temporary Duty Assignments/remote travel of 14–30 days away from home may be required.
• A valid driver's license and reliable transportation for full-time use are mandatory.
• Adequate motor vehicle insurance is required.
• Accurate and efficient typing skills are essential; a speed of 40+ WPM is recommended.
• Ability to operate multiple computer programs simultaneously is necessary.
• Capability to speak for extended periods and hear adequately for in-person and telephone communication.
• Proficiency in recording, reading, and transcribing words and numbers accurately.
• Strong grammar and writing abilities for producing high-quality reports.
• Professional interaction skills, reliability in attendance and punctuality, attention to detail, confidentiality, ethics, and integrity are essential.
• Professional attire is required.
• Must be able to lift and move up to 10 pounds, navigate stairs, walk extensively, stand for prolonged periods, and drive in adverse or nighttime conditions.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and personalities in a professional manner.
• Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment under remote supervision.
• Strong organizational, scheduling, prioritization, writing, and communication skills are crucial.
• Note that relocation assistance is not available.
