This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.
• Define and uphold the comprehensive application and data architecture.
• Set standards for system design, integration patterns (APIs, middleware, eventing), and data models.
• Ensure scalability, performance, and sustainability in the long run.
• Serve as the technical lead for all external development collaborators.
• Review and endorse solution designs, code architecture, and technical methods.
• Challenge vendors as necessary—no rubber stamping allowed.
• Ensure that delivery aligns with architectural standards and desired business outcomes.
• Define and manage data architecture, governance, and quality standards.
• Oversee integration across various systems (ERP, CRM, eCommerce, etc.).
• Ensure that data is usable, reliable, and ready for decision-making.
• Collaborate with leadership to translate business objectives into technical roadmaps and system requirements.
• Simplify intricate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
• Assess and guide decisions regarding SaaS vs. custom development, and build vs. buy vs. integrate options.
• Design integration architecture across ERP, marketing systems, and data platforms.
• Establish governance processes for architecture.
• Participate in sprint reviews, backlog prioritization, and delivery checkpoints.
• Ensure adherence to documentation, testing, and deployment standards.
• 8–12+ years of experience in application and/or data architecture roles.
• Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, at a minimum of B2 level (90%+).
• Demonstrated experience in leading vendor-based development environments.
• Strong familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Experience with API-driven architecture and data modeling/pipelines.
• Experience in integrating ERP (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite) and CRM (e.g., Salesforce) systems.
• Opinionated yet pragmatic—capable of making decisions without overengineering.
• Strong character—able to challenge vendors and assertively say no.
• Business-first attitude—focuses on outcomes rather than technical purity.
• Acts as a translator—bridging executive-level strategy with technical execution.
• Systems thinker—understands how all elements are interconnected.
