Android Framework Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Flock Safety is seeking an Android Framework Engineer to become a part of our Device OS Team.

• This position focuses on Embedded Systems rather than Mobile App development.

• Your role will involve developing the core functionalities of the device, including system services, IPC interfaces (AIDL), and hardware abstractions that enable our AI-driven cameras to autonomously capture and process data in the field for extended periods.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in designing versioned service interfaces using AIDL/HIDL to provide device functionality to headless Kotlin applications through a custom SDK.

• Proven capability in developing testable service implementations in Rust/C++.

• Understanding of the Android build system and best practices for API design connecting the kernel and applications.

• Strong background in Kotlin/JAVA development, including but not limited to:

• Familiarity with coroutines and OS threading concepts, such as semaphores, synchronization, and deadlocks.

• Knowledge of Android profiler, memory leaks, and management.

• Experience with unit testing, CTS/VTS.

• Skills in power and performance optimization, profiling, perfetto, and tracing.

• Interest in or experience with AOSP development, including shell scripting and init.rc.

• Understanding of security and SE Policy.

• Strong debugging skills on custom Android hardware.

• Ability to trace application code across different layers of the stack.

• Experience with OTA updates.

• Knowledge of reliability and self-healing concepts.

• Familiarity with networking and connectivity.

• Skills in analyzing tombstone and bug report files.

• Experience in system app development, methodologies, and design patterns.

• Background in architecture, design, and documentation.

• Proficient in using JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, Gerrit, and Git/GitHub.
