Android Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain Chess.com's premier Android application to cater to over 185 million global chess enthusiasts by providing high-performance, scalable mobile experiences.

• Design and establish a shared codebase architecture across our Android ecosystem to enhance development efficiency and code reusability.

• Work collaboratively with design, product management, data analytics, coaching, and titled player teams to transform business requirements into technical solutions while enhancing user experience.

• Improve application performance and user experience through code reviews, performance monitoring, and the application of Android best practices.

• Contribute to decisions regarding technical architecture to ensure mobile platform scalability and maintainability as the user base expands.

• Maintain and enhance development workflows to facilitate rapid iteration and deployment cycles within a fully distributed team setting.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in Android development with production applications.

• Expert-level knowledge of Kotlin and Android SDK development.

• Hands-on experience with Android Architecture Components such as ViewModels, Room, and Navigation.

• Proficiency in asynchronous programming using Coroutines or RxJava.

• Familiarity with dependency injection frameworks like Dagger 2 or Hilt.

• Proven experience with Jetpack Compose for contemporary UI development.

• Capability to work effectively within fully distributed/remote teams, exhibiting strong written and verbal communication skills.

• A history of taking ownership of features and projects from initial conception to final delivery.

• Experience in deploying Android applications to the Google Play Store.

• Kotlin Multiplatform experience for cross-platform mobile development is an added advantage.

• Experience in Swift/iOS/React Native development to foster enhanced cross-platform collaboration is also beneficial.
