This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.

📋 Description

• Design and implement secure, distributed platforms that support modular, multi-service software ecosystems.

• Create and integrate APIs, microservices, and data pipelines that facilitate interoperability among mission, simulation, and analytical systems.

• Establish and uphold architectural guidelines, modularity standards, and software best practices across development teams.

• Develop solutions that connect cloud, on-premises, and classified environments, ensuring interoperability and compliance.

• Create cloud-native solutions in AWS GovCloud or hybrid IL4–IL6 settings, adhering to strict security and accreditation protocols.

• Utilize Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK) to automate provisioning, configuration, and accreditation processes.

• Construct and manage CI/CD pipelines that incorporate security, compliance, and automated testing throughout the development and deployment stages.

• Ensure all platform designs adhere to zero-trust principles, facilitate multi-enclave deployment, and support repeatable accreditation (ATO) processes.

• Design or supervise large-scale data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration environments (Kafka, Airflow, Spark, or Databricks).

• Develop data architectures that optimize throughput, latency, and cost across distributed mission environments.

• Enable secure and efficient access to data and synchronization across analytical, AI-driven, and simulation workloads.

• Transition software and platforms from prototype to production, ensuring maintainability, observability, and configuration consistency.

• Establish standards for automated testing, release governance, and performance monitoring to support ongoing operations.

• Collaborate with program and product leadership to ensure delivery aligns with mission lifecycle requirements.

• Design architectures that ensure redundancy and resilience during degraded or disconnected operational conditions.

• Create and maintain secure enclave architectures, boundary controls, and cross-domain integration solutions.

• Work with cybersecurity and ISSM teams to facilitate ATO and automate ongoing accreditation processes.

• Integrate emerging technologies, open standards, and modern frameworks into operational systems.

• Collaborate with AI/ML, data, and simulation teams to enable model integration and inference services within production software (familiarity with MLOps concepts preferred).

• Assess new tools and frameworks to enhance developer productivity, performance, and automation efficiency.

• Lead by example as a hands-on technical authority, influencing design and implementation decisions.

• Mentor software engineers and architects to elevate technical standards, code quality, and architectural maturity.

• Collaborate with fellow Distinguished Engineers and organizational leaders to align platform strategy with enterprise innovation objectives.

• Clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both executive and engineering stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Active Secret clearance is required; TS/SCI is strongly preferred.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (Master’s preferred).

• 10–15 years of progressive software engineering experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a technical leadership or architectural role.

• Proven track record in architecting and deploying secure, distributed, cloud-native software platforms.

• Extensive experience with AWS GovCloud or IL4–IL6 hybrid environments.

• Hands-on expertise with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK) and CI/CD automation.

• Strong grasp of DevSecOps, zero-trust principles, and mission accreditation (ATO/RMF) processes.

• Demonstrated capability to operationalize software systems from prototype to accreditation in secure environments.

• Strong coding skills in one or more core programming languages (Python, Java, C++, TypeScript).

🏝️ Benefits

• Telecommuting options available.

• Health insurance coverage.

• Flexible work arrangements.

• Opportunities for professional development.
