Advanced Specialist, AI Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Iowa.

📋 Description

• Train, assess, and implement machine learning models designed to evaluate short answer and essay responses from students during both formative and summative assessments across school districts nationwide.

• Monitor the performance of active machine learning models to ensure consistent, fair, and unbiased scoring in real-time, and recalibrate models as necessary.

• Maintain, update, and enhance the codebase utilized for training and deploying machine learning models.

• Analyze historical model performance and conduct experiments to explore strategies that could enhance the team's modeling techniques and methodologies.

• Research and keep abreast of emerging technologies in the NLP domain.

• Serve as a thought leader in automated scoring by participating in and presenting at conferences.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science).

• Over 2 years of professional experience as a software engineer, data scientist, psychometrician, or machine learning engineer.

• Strong grasp of machine learning principles and current/emerging technologies.

• Proficient coding and analytical skills, including expertise in Python and Linux commands.

• Understanding of or experience in deploying machine learning models in production settings.

• Familiarity with software engineering fundamentals such as version control, object-oriented and functional programming, database and API access patterns, and testing.

• Enthusiasm for agile software processes, data-driven development, reliability, and systematic experimentation.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues of varying technical and non-technical backgrounds.

• A curious mindset with a commitment to continuous learning.

• Strong team-oriented work ethic, with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.

• Capability to function effectively as a team member in a collaborative environment.

• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
