Adoption Social Worker

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Assesses a family's capability and readiness to parent an adopted child by facilitating pre-home study meetings as requested, reviewing and evaluating agency-provided information, analyzing the family's understanding and perspectives on adoption, instructing adoption education courses as necessary, and conducting psycho-social assessments of family members.

• Enhances the provision of high-quality adoption services by preparing adoption home studies and post-placement reports that align with established guidelines and fulfill current agency, state, national, and USCIS requirements.

• Offers support and case management for all assigned families by maintaining quarterly communications throughout the process, relaying information to the family, referring them to suitable community support systems when needed, and documenting all interactions in Holt’s database.

• Equips families for travel and aids in post-placement adjustment by delivering training and pinpointing available resources to address the child's needs and facilitate the child's integration into the family.

• Conducts home visits as mandated by state law and country program guidelines, assists in the early detection of potential issues, and assesses the stability and suitability of the placement.

• Ensures the child's physical and emotional well-being while easing the family's adjustment by providing counseling to the child and family, and/or assisting in arranging counseling with an external clinician if necessary.

• In the event of an adoption disruption or dissolution, maintains a relationship with the family to ensure a transition plan is created that supports the child's needs.

• Aids the child and family during the transition to a new placement.

• Promotes public awareness of Holt and supports Holt programs by participating in events organized by Holt, including picnics or parent groups, representing Holt at adoption meetings, coalitions, and organizations, and engaging in other relevant outreach activities.

• Keeps abreast of professional knowledge by attending pertinent seminars and courses, staying informed about state regulations, legislation, adoption issues, and child-related concerns internationally; maintaining licensure, if required.

• Fosters a positive, productive work environment by adhering to attendance and punctuality standards, arranging time off with appropriate notice, treating everyone with dignity and respect, and demonstrating effective listening and comprehension skills, including both giving and receiving feedback.

• Contributes to team success by collaborating with Branch and Eugene offices, responding respectfully and promptly to all communications from Branch and Eugene, providing backup support to colleagues as needed, and assisting the branch office in achieving its objectives.


⛳️ Requirements

• Master's degree in Social Work required or another Social Service Master's degree with at least 2 years of experience in adoption and/or foster care.

• Demonstrated clinical and assessment skills along with experience in adoption services and processes.

• Capability to conduct a psycho-social assessment.

• Understanding of family and group dynamics as well as adoption practices.

• Outstanding writing and computer skills.

• Cross-cultural sensitivity.

• Required to complete a minimum of 30 hours of training every two years on current and emerging issues in adoption practices.
