Telugu Text Localization Expert – Freelancer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Reviewing and editing KA Math/Science content in Telugu and/or creating and localizing new text as required, while considering quality metrics such as contextualization, cohesion, rigor, clarity, and pedagogical approach.

• Gathering feedback on content by engaging with state teachers and integrating that feedback into the material.

• Localizing Math/Science text from English into Telugu.

• Examining Telugu Math textbooks to identify any necessary modifications prior to localization.

• Analyzing the original material, assessing it, and rewriting it in the target language as needed, ensuring the preservation of the original meaning.

• Utilizing state board and NCERT books along with specialized dictionaries, thesauruses, and reference materials to find the most accurate equivalents for terminology and vocabulary.

• Conducting research on relevant phraseology to ensure accurate translations.

• Proofreading and editing the final translated versions based on fundamental quality parameters including meaning, readability, compliance, terminology, consistency, and linguistics.

• Maintaining and expanding knowledge in specialized areas of translation.

• Creating and continuously updating a glossary of specific terminologies for Khan Academy’s localization process.

⛳️ Requirements

• Passionate about Math and/or Science and enjoys discussing these subjects [Comfortable with content up to class XII level].

• Fluent in the Telugu language (both speaking and writing).

• A native Telugu speaker.

• Previous experience in localization, preferably in the academic field.

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to conduct quality audits of localized content.

• Experience studying and/or teaching in a Telugu medium school.

• Background in online teaching and video creation/localization.

• Tech-savvy and curious about technology.

• Proficient in understanding the English language to facilitate text localization.

• Familiarity with various Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) tools.
