Staff Software Engineer, Storage

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Hungary.

📋 Description

• You will play a key role in designing and implementing the essential features of Apache Ozone and Apache Ratis (an open-source RAFT implementation).

• Your contributions will include regular coding and drafting design documents for the Apache open-source community.

• In the realm of storage engineering, you will assist enterprise clients managing hundreds of petabytes of big data analytics and ML/AI pipelines.

• You will collaborate with product managers and cross-functional teams within the Cloudera Data Platform ecosystem to understand requirements, translate them into robust designs and implementations, and facilitate integration and adoption.

• Your responsibilities will include leading and collaborating with a skilled team of engineers on features while also mentoring junior engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree plus 6 years, or a Master's degree with 4-6 years of relevant industry experience is required.

• A strong backend engineering skill set, with expertise in Java or strong C++ skills complemented by intermediate Java knowledge.

• A passion for programming, with clean coding practices, attention to detail, and a focus on quality.

• Experience in designing and developing large-scale distributed systems, with a thorough understanding of scaling, replication, consistency, and high availability.

• Solid experience in system software design and development, with a strong grasp of computer architecture, storage, network, IO subsystems, and distributed systems.

• A hands-on programmer with a robust understanding of data structures and algorithms.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• A strong background in distributed storage systems, including file systems, database storage internals, NoSQL storage, or distributed hash tables.

• Proven experience in performance tuning, identifying performance bottlenecks, and implementing performance enhancements.

• A strong understanding of the Apache Big Data ecosystem with over 3 years of experience in systems software, including file systems.

• Recognized contributions to open source projects.

• Experience with projects such as Hive, Pig, MapReduce, HBase, etc., is a significant advantage.

• A good understanding of storage development, the RAFT replication framework, or comparable distributed consensus frameworks.
