This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.
• Lead the design and implementation of Built’s data products platform aimed at application users, encompassing product interfaces, backend services, APIs, frontend workflows, and reusable components.
• Create comprehensive full-stack customer experiences utilizing TypeScript, React, Node.js, Python, and associated technologies.
• Collaborate with Product teams to refine vague concepts into effective customer workflows, challenge low-value requirements, and propose practical alternatives.
• Transform data science prototypes, analytical concepts, and platform functionalities into production-quality product experiences.
• Introduce strong software engineering methodologies within a data-centric team through technical design, code reviews, mentoring, testing, and delivery practices.
• Assist data engineers in undertaking more software engineering tasks across frontend, backend, APIs, product decomposition, and ensuring production readiness.
• Work collaboratively across Built to ensure that data products integrate seamlessly with application interfaces, platform functionalities, agents, or customer workflows.
• Leverage customer signals, usage metrics, product feedback, support issues, and discovery insights to inform engineering decisions.
• Staff-level software engineering experience with a proven history of leading ambiguous, customer-facing product initiatives from conception to production.
• Strong product acumen, customer intuition, and the capability to discern when a workflow or requirement fails to deliver customer value.
• Experience in full-stack web application development, particularly with a focus on backend product engineering.
• Extensive knowledge of TypeScript, Node.js, React, and contemporary web application architecture.
• Proficiency in Python or a demonstrated ability to operate effectively within Python-based systems.
• Experience in designing APIs, defining service boundaries, creating reusable application patterns, and building production backend systems.
• Capacity to write high-quality, maintainable code with a strong emphasis on testing, readability, observability, and operational ownership.
• Excellent technical communication skills, including the ability to produce design documentation, engage in architectural discussions, and perform tradeoff analyses.
• A collaborative leadership approach that encourages constructive challenges to product direction and mentors engineers without condescension.
