This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.
• Establish the technical direction for your domain - make decisions on build-versus-buy strategies, define the architecture, and manage the technical roadmap in collaboration with product leadership.
• Transform ambiguous challenges into defined tasks - scope projects, identify potential risks, decompose large initiatives into manageable increments, and facilitate alignment among teams.
• Design and implement production-grade systems - create scalable pipelines, robust services, and high-performance solutions that cater to real users at scale.
• Utilize AI tools within your workflow - you engage in AI-assisted development (such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) to enhance your productivity and have established insights on when it is beneficial and when it may hinder progress.
• Assess and incorporate AI/ML capabilities into production systems as needed - while you do not need to be an ML researcher, you possess the acumen to understand and apply LLMs, embeddings, or classification models effectively.
• Lead technical initiatives across teams - influence engineers and teams that you do not manage. Drive requests for comments (RFCs), conduct architectural reviews, and build consensus on challenging technical decisions.
• Take ownership of what you develop - from defining requirements to releasing and maintaining in production. You create it, you manage it. You monitor service level objectives (SLOs)/service level indicators (SLIs), troubleshoot production challenges, and continuously enhance reliability.
• Elevate engineering standards - through code reviews, mentorship, technical documentation, and by exemplifying the standards you expect from your peers.
• Proficient in Python (our main backend language). Comfortable working with various programming languages - you have deployed production code in at least two different languages.
• Designed and managed production systems that serve real users at scale - not merely contributed, but made significant architectural decisions and accepted the consequences.
• Led cross-team technical projects without formal authority - driven migrations, platform changes, or architectural transitions that necessitated collaboration among multiple teams.
• Strong instincts in system design - you consider failure modes, data flow, scalability, and operational costs. You design with the long-term maintenance of the system in mind, not just the initial deployment.
• Extensive DevOps and operational expertise - experienced with Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP), CI/CD, and observability. You do not simply throw code over the wall.
• Proven experience in mentoring engineers and elevating team standards - through pairing, reviews, RFCs, and by setting a positive example.
