Software Engineer – Intermediate

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Zealand.

📋 Description

• Develop self-service tools that empower partners to establish their own economies: you'll be delivering workflows that transition a business from concept to active loyalty program in less than 10 minutes, utilizing API abstractions that simplify complex economic systems into straightforward forms.

• Design multiplayer financial interactions within Payap: create a split payments process for that friend who always forgets to reimburse you, implement shared challenges that transform transactions into achievements, and ensure group payment interfaces function seamlessly even when some friends have Payap and others do not.

• Establish fraud detection mechanisms that safeguard without hindering legitimate transactions: formulate signals to identify card testing attempts without affecting a $5.50 flat white purchase, generate risk intelligence across numerous merchants, and develop monitoring that distinguishes unusual activity during peak lunch hours.

• You build it, you manage it, you take ownership: Engineers at Centrapay develop features from start to finish and oversee their production. When issues arise or improvements are needed, you possess the context and independence to address them without awaiting permission or transferring responsibilities to other teams.

• Learn through creation: We present you with business challenges rather than specifications. "Partners require quicker onboarding" serves as your starting point, and the solution is yours to determine. You’ll conduct market research, execute spikes, and navigate through the solution landscape. No ticket grooming, no story pointing. Additionally, we allocate 10% of your time and host Hackathons to explore innovative technologies you might not typically use.

• Prioritize progress over perfection: We deploy to production daily, and you’ll be able to push code starting on your first day. We believe in early shipping, rapid iteration, and learning from actual usage.

• Work across the entire stack: Backend, frontend, infrastructure. Whatever it takes to provide exceptional experiences for our customers.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of experience delivering actual code to users. We seek individuals who have gained insights from real-world mistakes and understand what it takes to construct reliable systems.

• Strong writing skills - as we operate on an async-first basis, most of our communication is conducted in writing.

• Comfort with uncertainty - you will be expected to engage with users and discern what needs to be built.
