This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Develop and enhance the core infrastructure of our platform to support hundreds of thousands of merchants globally.
• Collaborate with other teams to define the project scope and ensure the successful delivery of cross-team initiatives.
• Work alongside the Engineering Manager and Team Lead to realize the team's long-term vision.
• Implement a technical strategy for broad or intricate requirements, employing insightful and innovative approaches that extend beyond the immediate team to tackle large-scale, open-ended challenges.
• Leverage advanced development tools like Claude Code to automate segments of the development process.
• Elevate engineering standards, tools, and processes across the organization.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience as a backend software engineer.
• Understanding of Domain-Driven Design, distributed systems, and the impact of architectural choices on performance and maintainability.
• Proficiency in concepts including data models, API design (http and RPC), state machines, event-driven architecture, and database design.
• Strong communication abilities, both written and verbal; must excel in asynchronous communication such as written technical specifications, ADRs, and project plans.
• Experience in designing, developing, and deploying backend systems (our technology stack includes AWS, gRPC, Snowflake, Kotlin, Python, MySQL, and Kubernetes). Experience with Java and Kotlin is particularly advantageous.
• Previous involvement with monitoring and alerting systems (e.g., sentry.io, rollbar, chronosphere, kibana).
• This role requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
