This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +4 more states.
• Design and enhance the foundational structure of our platform to accommodate hundreds of thousands of merchants globally.
• Coordinate and define the scope of work with various teams to successfully deliver cross-team initiatives.
• Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and Team Lead to realize the long-term vision of the team.
• Implement a technical strategy for broad or intricate requirements using insightful, forward-thinking approaches that address larger, open-ended challenges beyond the immediate team.
• Leverage advanced development tools like Claude Code to automate segments of the development workflow.
• Elevate engineering standards, tools, and processes across the organization.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a backend software engineer.
• Understanding of Domain-Driven Design, distributed systems, and the impact of architectural choices on performance and maintainability.
• Proficient in concepts such as data models, API design (HTTP and RPC), state machines, event-driven architecture, and database design.
• Strong communication abilities, both written and verbal; adeptness in asynchronous communication, including technical specifications, ADRs, project plans, etc.
• Proven experience in designing, developing, and launching backend systems (technology stack: AWS, gRPC, Snowflake, Kotlin, Python, MySQL, Kubernetes). Experience with Java and Kotlin is particularly advantageous.
• Previous involvement with monitoring and alerting systems (such as sentry.io, rollbar, chronosphere, kibana).
• This role requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
