Site Reliability Engineer, Production Reliability

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design and oversee scalable, self-healing, globally-distributed systems.

• Ensure Yelp remains fast, accessible, and continuously expanding.

• Execute essential components of the core architecture while providing support to developers.

• Enable Yelp: provisioning infrastructure should always be a git commit and a code review away, with automation and self-service at the heart of our operations.

• Diagnose site issues utilizing industry-leading tools such as Splunk, Grafana, and Prometheus.

• Automate all processes using Python, Puppet, Git, Jenkins, Terraform, and more!

• Create custom tools when standard solutions fall short at our scale and contribute to upstream open-source projects.

• Design and implement new systems, testing protocols, and procedures.

• Engage in light on-call rotations – we have geographically distributed SRE teams for follow-the-sun support.

⛳️ Requirements

• Expertise in Linux (we primarily use Ubuntu but any distribution is acceptable).

• Proficiency in your preferred modern programming language to ensure the delivery of safe and secure services: Python, Typescript, Ruby, Go, Rust, Java, C++, etc.

• Strong understanding of fundamental Internet technologies necessary for delivering services online (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, etc.).

• Experience with public cloud platforms (we utilize AWS and GCP, but others are also acceptable) and related tools (Terraform, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, etc.).

• Familiarity with Linux containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Podman, and Kubernetes).

• Self-driven to explore, resolve issues, and enhance Yelp in a dynamic environment.

• Ability to lead, collaborate, and share technical activities with global teams.

• Responsible for the complete lifecycle of a system.
