This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Take ownership of the architecture and technical strategy for essential product areas within a multi-tenant SaaS platform.
• Collaborate with product, design, and data/ML teams to convert business challenges into straightforward, robust technical solutions.
• Propel the advancement of our system architecture (APIs, services, data flows, authentication, tenancy, integrations) as the product and customer base expand.
• Develop and sustain backend services and APIs (REST/GraphQL/gRPC) that support those experiences.
• Deliver backend features comprehensively, including data schemas and business logic.
• Work alongside UX and product teams to ensure responsive and enjoyable product experiences.
• Collaborate with data scientists and MLOps/platform teams to integrate data, ML, and AI functionalities into the product (such as recommendations, categorization, automation, routing, insights, LLM-powered workflows, etc.).
• Design APIs, data contracts, and UX flows that render ML/AI features reliable, comprehensible, and secure for customers.
• Ensure the establishment of telemetry and feedback loops so that data/ML teams can assess performance, iterate models, and enhance outcomes.
• Assist in defining and implementing guardrails for AI features (such as fallbacks, explanations, error handling, and permissions).
• Advocate for operability: monitoring, alerting, logging, and runbooks for the services you manage.
• Lead initiatives to enhance performance, scalability, and resilience of critical processes (e.g., onboarding, reporting, AI-assisted workflows).
• Collaborate with security and compliance teams to ensure features adhere to requirements regarding authentication, authorization, data privacy, and multi-tenancy.
• Engage in and contribute to evolving on-call/incident response processes as a technical leader.
• Serve as a technical mentor for multiple teams, raising standards for code quality, reviews, testing, and design.
• Lead technical design reviews and cross-team architectural discussions, particularly where product, data, and ML converge.
• Help define engineering standards and best practices (API design, frontend patterns, error handling, observability, testing).
• Partner with engineering management to shape roadmaps, staffing, and sequencing for significant initiatives.
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Proven experience in delivering data/ML/AI powered SaaS products.
• Strong history of owning and launching complex, user-facing features from start to finish in collaboration with product management and UX.
• Experience as a senior member of the technical staff, guiding teams and managing critical production systems.
• Strong proficiency in at least one backend technology stack, such as:
• o Node.js/TypeScript, Java, Go, Rust, or similar technologies.
• o Designing and constructing APIs, services, and integrations.
• Proficiency in Python and data analysis/modeling tools (e.g., pandas/pytorch).
• Solid understanding of data modeling and storage, including relational databases, caching, and fundamental data warehousing concepts.
• Familiarity with data/ML/AI concepts:
• o How ML models or LLMs are deployed as services.
• o Common failure modes, latency/throughput considerations, and guardrails.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), containers, and infrastructure (networking, scaling, security).
• Strong practices around testing, CI/CD, code reviews, and incremental delivery.
• A product-minded engineer who prioritizes customer issues, usability, and outcomes, rather than solely focusing on code.
• A systems thinker who can balance immediate delivery with long-term architectural sustainability.
• Excellent communicator, adept at fostering alignment across engineering, product, data, and go-to-market teams.
• Enjoys mentoring and amplifying the contributions of fellow engineers.
• Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.
• Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
• Flexible work hours and remote work options.
• Professional development opportunities, including training and conferences.
• Collaborative and inclusive company culture.
