Senior Software Engineer – Storage Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.

📋 Description

• Develop and enhance a storage platform that operates at a cloud scale — we are discussing exabyte-level storage with significant durability challenges.

• Optimize various hard drive and hardware characteristics to enhance throughput and minimize error rates across different hardware failure scenarios.

• Diagnose ambiguous, symptom-driven issues where the signal is weak and the underlying cause isn't clear.

• Contribute to significant architectural advancements that will sustain the platform for the next 5–10 years — including accommodating emerging storage technologies.

• Take ownership of components in the stack where general-purpose solutions no longer suffice.

• Enhance hardware utilization and efficiency as the business expands and scales upmarket.

• Collaborate closely with a distributed team — coordinating, problem-solving, and effectively communicating across time zones on a daily basis.

• Strong fundamentals in software engineering with a comfort in operating closer to the stack.

• Experience in complex systems where performance, reliability, and cost are critical considerations.

• A genuine capability to navigate uncertainty — you can manage limited signals and multiple potential causes without becoming stuck.

• Solid collaboration and communication skills in English (sufficient for in-depth technical discussions).

• Proficiency in Java, or significant experience in related languages (C, C++, C#, Rust) — foundational knowledge is more important than the specific language.

• A proven history of delivering in environments where engineering decisions have tangible downstream impacts.
