Senior Software Engineer – ML, Contractor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Transition ML or LLM proofs of concept to production with enterprise-level reliability and cost efficiency.

• Design and enhance data and training pipelines for enterprise ML applications.

• Engage in ML platform and MLOps activities, including deployment, version control, monitoring, evaluation, and model CI/CD.

• Develop LLM and RAG systems, focusing on retrieval quality, evaluation, and cost management.

• Address significant technical gaps within client engineering teams for specified durations.

• Execute brief technical audits and provide advisory services on existing ML infrastructures.

• Collaborate as a member of a Janea team on client projects in a client-facing role.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of software engineering experience, including over 3 years in deploying ML systems to production.

• Proficient in Python, producing code of production quality.

• In-depth knowledge in at least one area: LLM and agent systems, ML platforms and MLOps, or ML data and pipeline engineering; functional experience in the other two areas.

• Experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow and their associated production ecosystems.

• Familiarity with containers and Kubernetes in at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Knowledge of workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow, Kubeflow, Argo, Dagster, or Prefect.

• Experience applying testing, benchmarking, CI/CD, and monitoring best practices to ML systems.

• Capability to convert ambiguous business challenges into technical strategies independently.

• Proficient in client-facing English and able to communicate technical trade-offs to non-ML-specialist stakeholders.

• Must possess personal equipment.

• Must have a legal entity for invoicing purposes.

• Typically work 40 hours per week unless otherwise stated.

• Minimum of four hours of daily overlap with US business hours for most projects.

• Operate as an independent contractor, invoicing through one's own company or registered sole trader entity.
