Senior Software Engineer, Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Create, develop, and take ownership of scalable backend services and APIs designed to manage intricate healthcare data and workflows.

• Enhance database queries and data models to guarantee system performance and reliability at scale.

• Assess and communicate the technical tradeoffs involved in system design, performance, and maintainability.

• Incorporate AI tools and agentic coding methodologies into backend processes where they provide substantial value.

• Produce clean, thoroughly tested, production-quality code with a strong emphasis on quality.

• Collaborate with product, data, and cross-functional teams to convert requirements into solid technical solutions.

• Contribute to engineering best practices through code reviews, technical discussions, and improved standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional software engineering experience with significant backend ownership of production systems.

• Extensive knowledge in Java and/or Python.

• Demonstrated experience in system design and the capability to explain tradeoffs between different architectural methods.

• Strong foundation in testing, debugging, performance enhancement, and code review.

• Regular and proficient use of AI tools (Claude, Cursor, etc.) as an integral part of your daily tasks.

• Comfortable managing cloud deployments, ideally on AWS (EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3).

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies.

• Knowledge of data engineering frameworks — Airflow, dbt, Snowflake, or Dagster — is highly advantageous.

• Experience in developing AI agents is a plus.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
