Senior Scientist / Engineer – Immunology, Nucleic Acid Therapeutics, Synthetic Biology, Cell Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Carolina.

📋 Description

• Act as a senior scientific and technical consultant to the Program Manager.

• Perform thorough evaluations of the existing scientific and technical landscape.

• Assist with programs and projects related to immunology, nucleic acid therapeutics, synthetic biology, cell engineering, gene regulation, biomaterials, microbiome science, toxicology, and other biotechnology fields.

• Track and evaluate performer progress against established technical milestones.

• Conduct critical reviews of complex scientific, technical, and programmatic information.

• Facilitate program execution through documentation, internal reporting, briefing creation, data gathering, and coordination among multidisciplinary teams.

• Aid in technical assessments, landscape evaluations, performer reviews, and programmatic analysis in health-related research domains.

• Integrate into an existing ARPA-H support team while also functioning independently.

• Support coordination across cooperative agreements, Other Transaction awards, milestone-based contracts, FFRDCs, interagency efforts, and commercialization initiatives.

• Travel within CONUS as necessary, approximately 10–20%, to assist with program reviews, meetings, and stakeholder interactions.

⛳️ Requirements

• PhD in immunology, nucleic acid therapeutics, synthetic biology, analytical chemistry, materials science, applied biotechnology, or a closely related discipline.

• Experience in one or more of the following domains: immunology, nucleic acid-based prophylactics and therapeutics, nucleic acid delivery, synthetic biology, cell engineering, gene regulation, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, polymer chemistry, materials science, toxicology, cell biology, structural biology, biomaterials, nanotechnology, microbiome science, or microbial communities.

• Excellent technical writing abilities.

• Proven capability to comprehend both basic and applied research across biotechnology sectors.

• Strong logical, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

• Professional curiosity and a continuous desire for learning.

• Ability to distill large amounts of complex information into actionable, decision-ready insights.

• High comfort level operating in fast-paced, high-pressure R&D settings.

• Proficient in PowerPoint and Excel.

• Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively as part of an integrated technical and programmatic team.

• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a federal government Public Trust.
