Senior Regulatory Compliance Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Assisting in the execution of strategic food regulatory and nutrition labeling frameworks at Ventura Foods.

• Taking on increased responsibilities in global regulatory compliance for both ingredients and finished products within the U.S. and at least two international markets (e.g., APAC, EMEA, NA, and LATAM).

• Offering regulatory guidance to R&D, Legal, Quality, Sales, Marketing, Operations, Customers, Co-Manufacturers, Suppliers, Consultants, and other internal and external stakeholders.

• Continuously enhancing knowledge of new and existing laws, Trade Agreements (TA), and regulations at local, state, and federal levels in the U.S. and in global markets (e.g., APAC, EMEA, NA, and LATAM).

• Utilizing this knowledge to interpret and convey regulatory matters to affected customers and teams, ensuring that both branded and private label products adhere to legislative standards.

• Initiating and leading cross-functional regulatory initiatives, developing necessary protocols including labels, standards, procedures, guidance documents, and communications for customers in response to regulatory developments in assigned markets (e.g., APAC, EMEA, NA, and LATAM).

• Employing risk assessments and risk/benefit analyses to evaluate regulatory risks pertaining to claims, nutritional information, market analyses, compliance for branded and private label products, ingredients, allergens, food contact packaging materials, production disruptions, and supply chain shortages.

• Collaboratively engaging with cross-functional partners on new business opportunities in designated global selling markets.

• Leveraging relevant food laws, Free Trade Agreements (FTA), and country permissibility assessments to guide and educate teams on feasible options that support desired business objectives.

• Managing multiple priorities as a regulatory expert, including facilitating knowledge transfer to enhance regulatory expertise and capacity.

• Collaborating directly with consultants, suppliers, and customers to streamline regulatory processes and achieve both regulatory and business outcomes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience in the industry.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in the food, beverage, or pharmaceutical sectors focused on regulatory compliance or in a regulatory affairs role.

• Willingness to travel up to 5%.

• Experience actively leading regulatory compliance projects as a result of rulemaking activities is preferred.

• In-depth knowledge of global food laws and regulations, including food ingredients and labeling under FDA and USDA jurisdictions.

• Familiarity with Kosher and Halal Certification Programs, Food Contact Packaging Materials Regulations, and related trade activities in various regions (APAC, EMEA, LATAM, NA).

• Well-versed in hazard analysis, risk assessments, and concepts of food safety.

• Comprehensive understanding of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and its Final Rules, Federal Food Drug and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA), Codex Alimentarius, California Proposition 65, California Proposition 12, FDA, and USDA labeling statutes and regulations, as well as other related regulations governing food manufacturing.

• Exceptional organizational, communication (both verbal and written), interpersonal, and team collaboration skills.

• Highly motivated, collaborative, self-directed, and a proactive team player.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, PIM, regulatory software systems (e.g., Decernis gComply and Decernis gComply Plus), and Trustwell/Genesis labeling platforms.
