This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.
• Lead, mentor, and nurture a team of data engineers by establishing clear objectives, expectations, and development plans.
• Conduct performance evaluations, provide continuous coaching, and assist in career advancement for team members.
• Oversee resource allocation, capacity planning, and workload distribution across various projects and clients.
• Promote a cooperative, inclusive, and high-achieving engineering culture.
• Take ownership of the complete delivery process for data engineering projects, ensuring they meet quality standards, deadlines, and align with business objectives.
• Strategically plan, prioritize, and monitor team workflows related to client onboarding, migrations, and platform upgrades.
• Eliminate obstacles, manage risks and dependencies, and appropriately escalate issues to leadership.
• Collaborate with project and program managers to establish realistic timelines and commitments.
• Provide technical guidance for ETL/ELT development utilizing Azure Data Factory, dbt, Snowflake, Salesforce, and other relevant platforms.
• Review and oversee data architecture, models, warehouses, data lakes, and data vault designs to ensure scalability and maintainability.
• Ensure the implementation of engineering best practices for integration, transformation, testing, and deployment.
• Make recommendations on build-versus-buy decisions and tooling in collaboration with the Director.
• Implement comprehensive data quality frameworks, validation, and monitoring across pipelines.
• Maintain data accuracy, integrity, security, and compliance, taking into account PHI/PII considerations.
• Establish standards and documentation for data flows, architecture, and transformations.
• Drive the resolution of performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency challenges across the platform.
• Collaborate with BI, analytics, product, and business teams to ensure data solutions meet reporting and consumption requirements.
• Clearly communicate progress, risks, and technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Contribute to roadmap planning and prioritization of data initiatives across the organization.
• Identify and implement enhancements to engineering processes, automation, and operational efficiency.
• Assess emerging tools, technologies, and frameworks to enhance team capabilities.
• Stay updated on industry trends in data engineering, cloud platforms, and big data technologies.
• Perform additional related duties as assigned by leadership.
• Directly manage a team of data engineers, including responsibilities for hiring, performance management, and professional development.
• Provide technical and career mentorship while leading cross-functional engineering workstreams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field is required; an advanced degree is a plus.
• 8 to 12+ years of experience in data engineering or data architecture, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
• Advanced expertise in SQL and data modeling, with strong architectural acumen.
• Significant experience with ETL/ELT tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, dbt, Informatica, Talend).
• Practical experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Azure, AWS).
• Proven history of delivering large-scale data warehouses, data lakes, and BI solutions.
• Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop ecosystem).
• Experience with healthcare data, including PHI/PII, is preferred.
• Demonstrated skills in people leadership, project delivery, and stakeholder management.
