Senior iOS Engineer, Media Foundations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in France.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain high-performance camera and video functionalities on iOS.

• Take ownership of and enhance elements of our AVFoundation camera stack, including capture sessions, devices, formats, frame rates, exposure, and device capabilities.

• Create and refine real-time image and video processing workflows.

• Enhance capture quality, latency, stability, and fluidity across all supported iPhone models.

• Work on multi-camera functionalities, front/back video composition, video encoding, media export, and audio/video synchronization.

• Optimize CPU, GPU, memory, battery usage, thermal performance, buffer management, and multithreaded processing.

• Explore device-specific and iOS-version-specific behaviors, offering practical technical trade-offs.

• Collaborate closely with iOS engineers, product teams, design, backend, and data teams.

• Directly contribute to the codebase while elevating engineering standards regarding media performance and reliability.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 6 years of iOS experience, with a strong practical focus on camera, video, or media-intensive features.

• Profound knowledge of AVFoundation and iOS camera APIs: AVCaptureSession, AVCaptureDevice, video outputs, capture formats, frame rates, exposure, and device configuration.

• Extensive experience in designing and optimizing real-time camera, image, and video pipelines, along with a solid grasp of media formats, encoding, buffer management, and capture quality and performance limitations.

• A strong performance-oriented mindset focusing on CPU/GPU usage, memory, battery, thermal constraints, multithreading, and minimizing buffer copies.

• Proficient with iOS profiling tools such as Instruments, Time Profiler, Allocations, and Metal System Trace.

• Strong skills in Swift. Experience with Metal, Core Image, or lower-level Apple APIs is advantageous.

• Self-reliant, pragmatic, and adept at addressing intricate hardware/software challenges.
