
Senior Engineer – Substation Protection & Control

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Deliver technical guidance to engineers and designers responsible for protection, control, and metering systems in high-voltage substations.
• Act as Technical Lead on designated projects, steering designs from initial concepts through to construction and commissioning phases.
• Create and evaluate protection planning and application documents.
• Generate and assess one-lines, schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
• Conduct protection coordination studies and set relay parameters for utility transmission systems.
• Oversee engineering design reviews, factory acceptance testing, and field inspections.
• Assist with construction, outage planning, and commissioning tasks.
• Engage in client technical, Safety by Design, and constructability review meetings.
• Prepare or evaluate project scopes, feasibility studies, estimates, and deliverables during the definition phase.
• Work alongside the Business Development team on proposals and cost estimates.
• Serve as a technical liaison for clients and external partners.
• Mentor and nurture junior engineers while aiding in the ongoing enhancement of P&C standards and practices.
• 8–15 years of experience in utility-focused protection, control, and metering engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
• Eligibility for (or current) Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Canada (U.S. PE is a plus).
• Strong background in P&C detailed design drawings and the development of substation protection philosophies.
• Experience in conducting protection coordination studies and relay settings for high-voltage transmission systems.
• Hands-on expertise with relay software such as ASPEN, CAPE, EasyPower, SKM, and relay platforms from SEL and GE.
• Practical understanding of substation construction, commissioning, and outage planning processes.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with EPC projects and familiarity with utility maintenance and operational practices are considered significant advantages.
