Senior DevOps Engineer, Data Platforms

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Latin America.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of end-to-end operational delivery for cloud-native data platform environments (AWS, Azure) across various managed services clients, including environment configuration, infrastructure automation, and platform reliability.

• Convert business and technical requirements into robust, cost-effective platform solutions that align with phData methodologies, architectural standards, and best practices.

• Develop, implement, and maintain infrastructure-as-code configurations and CI/CD pipelines to facilitate repeatable and governed platform delivery.

• Oversee and support production data jobs and pipelines (ETL/ELT), ensuring prompt resolution of failures while minimizing business impact as you deepen your understanding of data platform patterns.

• Ensure project engagements are completed on schedule, within scope, and deliver measurable business value for clients.

• Work collaboratively with Solutions Architects, data engineering teams, analytics teams, and client stakeholders to execute successful, well-integrated client engagements.

• Provide technical leadership during troubleshooting sessions, infrastructure reviews, and platform deployments, particularly across AWS and Azure cloud services.

• Maintain high-quality deliverables through comprehensive documentation, deployment guides, runbooks, and compliance with governance and change management processes.

• Collaborate with practice and account leaders to enhance operational maturity, standardize delivery patterns, and improve client satisfaction across a broad user base.

• Contribute to internal initiatives, such as developing and refining IaC templates, automation scripts, CI/CD frameworks, and operational playbooks for Elastic Platform Operations.

• Mentor colleagues by sharing cloud engineering best practices, leading knowledge-sharing sessions, and aiding team members in learning new tools and technologies.

• Represent phData professionally in all interactions, ensuring clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Serve as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders regarding cloud platform reliability, infrastructure strategy, and performance optimization.

• Lead complex infrastructure and platform delivery projects, coordinating efforts across multiple teams to drive long-term enhancements.

• Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning, feedback, and continuous improvement.

• Help establish and refine Elastic Operations standards, reusable IaC assets, and delivery frameworks for managed services.

⛳️ Requirements

• 6+ years of practical experience in DevOps, cloud platform engineering, or infrastructure, preferably with client-facing or consulting delivery experience.

• Strong expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Azure, including core infrastructure services (e.g., S3, ADLS, IAM, networking, compute, secrets management).

• Proven hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation), including authoring, extending, and maintaining IaC in team settings.

• Solid background in designing and operating CI/CD pipelines and tooling (e.g., GitHub Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines, Azure DevOps) for platform and application deployments.

• Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and operational tooling in cloud-native environments.

• Familiarity with SQL, including the ability to read, write, and debug queries to assist with platform troubleshooting and data flow validation.

• Working knowledge of Unix/Linux environments and foundational system administration and scripting concepts.

• Strong skills in troubleshooting, performance tuning, and root-cause analysis across cloud infrastructure and platform services.

• Regular daily use of AI coding tools (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, or equivalent) with demonstrated discernment regarding when to trust, verify, and correct AI-generated outputs.

• Ability to articulate specific engineering tasks completed with AI assistance.

• Experience delivering projects for external or internal clients in a professional services, consulting, or managed services context.

• Capacity to decompose complex, ambiguous platform challenges into structured, actionable steps and drive them to completion.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the capacity to clearly convey technical issues and solutions to non-technical stakeholders.

• Proven ability to work effectively with distributed and cross-functional teams across engineering, sales, and support.

• Demonstrated track record of taking full ownership, managing multiple concurrent priorities, and delivering high-quality work with minimal supervision.

• Willingness to learn new technology stacks, including data platform technologies, and assist in up-skilling other team members.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
