Senior DBA – PostgreSQL, RDS, DevOps Tooling

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Jordan.

📋 Description

• Lead and implement significant upgrades for PostgreSQL and AWS RDS database versions.

• Create and uphold comprehensive upgrade strategies, rollback methods, and operational runbooks.

• Conduct thorough pre- and post-upgrade database health assessments, validations, and performance evaluations.

• Monitor, tune, and enhance database performance during and following the migration process.

• Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to synchronize upgrade efforts.

• Plan and execute essential tasks during allocated low-traffic maintenance periods.

• Record all processes, configurations, and modifications in a transparent and verifiable manner.

• (Role B only) Develop and manage Bash scripts to automate routine DBA responsibilities and upgrade procedures.

• (Role B only) Oversee version-controlled scripts, runbooks, and configurations utilizing GitHub.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of practical DBA experience with PostgreSQL in live production settings.

• Extensive experience with AWS RDS (PostgreSQL engine) and associated services (e.g., RDS Proxy, Parameter Groups, CloudWatch, Snapshots, Multi-AZ).

• Demonstrated success in managing substantial database version upgrades with minimal disruption.

• Expertise in query optimization, indexing techniques, vacuum/analyze tuning, and connection management.

• Proficient in database backup, recovery, and point-in-time restoration procedures.

• Strong knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery setups.

• Excellent communication skills and capability to collaborate within a distributed remote team.

• Skilled in writing Bash shell scripts for automation, health monitoring, and scheduled tasks.

• Practical experience with GitHub for version control, pull requests, and branching methodologies.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools is advantageous.
