Senior Clinical Documentation Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver cross-coverage and advanced CDI support throughout Ascension's multi-market system.

• Fill temporary staffing shortages resulting from PTO, medical leaves, vacancies, and varying census levels.

• Oversee high-complexity cases effectively.

• Drive key initiatives and act as a subject matter expert and mentor within CDI departments.

• Utilize CDI practices and coding guidelines to ensure thorough and precise medical record documentation.

• Collaborate closely with healthcare providers.

• Adjust to diverse facility workflows, EHRs, and service lines with minimal training.

• Assist in onboarding new CDS, providing short-term training and supporting regional initiatives when not engaged in coverage.

• Rapidly adapt to local workflows, Epic and Cerner EHRs, as well as 3M, Iodine, and Nuance CDI software.

⛳️ Requirements

• Clinical Documentation Prof. credential from the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists must be obtained prior to the hire date or job transfer date.

• Certification as a CCDS (Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist) is mandatory.

• A valid Registered Nurse (RN) license is required.

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience, OR an Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience, OR 5 years of relevant cumulative job-specific experience.

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in clinical documentation, coding, DRG, and a strong understanding of CDI standards is preferred.

• Proficiency in SOI/ROM, MCC/CC, mortality reviews, and alignment with quality indicators (PSI, HAC).

• Familiarity with various CDI tools, including CDE One and Cerner, is preferred.

• Strong technical skills for navigating multiple EHRs, particularly Epic and Cerner.

• Competence with remote platforms.

• 2 years of experience in leadership or management roles is preferred.
