Senior Clinical Documentation Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver cross-functional coverage and high-level CDI support throughout Ascension’s multi-market system.

• Address temporary staffing shortages resulting from PTO, medical leave, vacancies, and variable census.

• Operate as an advanced front-line Clinical Documentation Specialist.

• Manage complex cases with a high degree of difficulty.

• Lead pivotal initiatives within the organization.

• Act as a subject matter expert and mentor within CDI departments across various markets.

• Implement CDI practices and coding guidelines to ensure comprehensive and accurate medical record documentation.

• Collaborate effectively with healthcare providers.

• Adjust to diverse facility workflows, EHRs, and service lines with minimal training required.

• Assist with new CDS onboarding, short-term training, and regional initiatives when not engaged in coverage.

• Uphold high-quality standards and maintain continuity of CDI operations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Clinical Documentation Prof. credential from the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists must be obtained before the hire or job transfer date.

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience OR 5 years of relevant cumulative job-specific experience.

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in clinical documentation, coding, DRG, and robust CDI standards.

• Demonstrated adaptability to different hospital systems and workflows.

• Proficiency in SOI/ROM, MCC/CC, mortality reviews, and quality indicator alignment (PSI, HAC).

• Strong skills in time management, independence, and problem-solving.

• Proficient in multiple CDI tools (CDE One, Cerner preferred) and remote platforms.

• An active Registered Nurse (RN) license is required.

• CCDS certification is mandatory.

• Strong technical skills in navigating various EHRs.

• Ability to rapidly acclimate to local workflows, EHRs (Epic, Cerner), and CDI software (3M, Iodine, Nuance).

• Preferred 2 years of leadership or management experience.
