
Senior Backend Engineer, Space Operations Intelligence – Autonomy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +30 more states.
• Perform all role responsibilities in accordance with Slingshot’s core values, mission, and objectives.
• Collaborate with the technology team, including product managers, designers, and engineers, to create appropriately sized solutions that enhance Slingshot’s SOIA capabilities.
• Fulfill product requirements promptly without compromising operational stability.
• Engage in Agile software development and deployment methodologies.
• Offer continuous support for services and applications that are essential to real-time space operations intelligence.
• Convey methods, results, and hypotheses to stakeholders effectively.
• Work on both frontend and backend services to provide value to both internal and external users.
• Develop data platforms/pipelines, microservices, interactions with AI agents, and distributed systems that drive SOIA workflows.
• Create and document APIs (REST, GraphQL) that support high-volume, real-time data flows.
• Design advanced data interfaces and interactive user experiences that enhance operator decision-making processes.
• Transform architectural concepts into technical specifications that can be implemented by any team member.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in software development.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline.
• Active security clearance is necessary; Top Secret clearance is preferred.
• Proficient in our tech stack or analogous technologies (Java/Kotlin, GraphQL/GraphQL subscriptions, REST, Docker, Kubernetes, React, Python).
• Experienced in cloud-based deployments (AWS), including PaaS and IaaS solutions, as well as Infrastructure-as-Code.
• Skilled in working with containers and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, EKS).
• Extensive understanding of version control systems (Git) and CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions).
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures, including Kafka and CloudEvents, data platforms, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Knowledgeable in database design, performance optimization, and troubleshooting (PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
• Proficient in collaborating with data scientists to integrate AI/ML/LLM into production software.
