• Design, develop, and manage the backend services that power Super Dispatch's platform for carriers and shippers within the U.S. vehicle transportation sector.
• Take ownership of several backend services from inception to completion — including architecture, REST APIs, and databases.
• Manage third-party API integrations — encompassing implementation, cost management, rate-limiting, and ongoing maintenance.
• Contribute to establishing backend technical standards and best practices.
• Oversee observability tools — including dashboards, alerting systems, and SLA tracking for services.
• Engage in the backend on-call rotation as the primary responder for production incidents.
• Lead the collaborative effort with QA on the testing strategy.
• Convert product requirements into technical specifications and manage the technical scope.
• Gather feedback from Support and refine API usability and documentation accordingly.
• Work in partnership with Design and Frontend teams on API contracts and payloads.
• A minimum of 7 years of professional backend experience (10+ years preferred), including a role at a senior or staff level within a product-driven environment.
• Proficient in Python with extensive experience in Django and/or FastAPI.
• Well-versed in concurrent and asynchronous Python (using asyncio for in-process concurrency; Celery or similar task queues for distributed background tasks).
• Experience with offline-first or unreliable-network synchronization, including optimistic updates, queue-and-replay, and conflict resolution.
• Utilize AI coding assistants regularly in your workflow (for scaffolding, refactoring, navigating unfamiliar code, and drafting tests and documentation).
• Practical experience with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL (involving schema design and query optimization).
• Familiarity with at least one messaging broker or streaming platform (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ) and comprehension of delivery semantics (ordering, idempotency, retries).
• Solid grasp of system design and microservices architecture.
• Consistently write automated tests — including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests (e.g., pytest, tox, Playwright).
• Experience working in an Agile and/or Scrum environment.
• Comfortable with CI/CD pipelines and trunk-based development practices.
• Proven experience in building and maintaining REST APIs, managing WebSockets, and handling networking.
• Practical observability experience (monitoring, logging, alerting) along with an understanding of SLAs and on-call readiness.
• Ability to present technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders in relatable business terms.
