This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Design, construct, and sustain scalable backend services and APIs that enhance Chattermill’s primary analytics platform.
• Architect dependable, maintainable distributed systems and participate in the advancement of backend service design and infrastructure.
• Take ownership of the complete delivery process for backend engineering workstreams, from technical scoping and architecture to implementation, testing, observability, and production support.
• Integrate language models, agentic frameworks, and AI pipelines within core products and backend services.
• Enhance performance, reliability, and observability across high-throughput distributed data systems, involving logging, tracing, alerting, and incident response.
• Engage with cloud infrastructure and distributed systems in GCP (preferred) or AWS environments.
• Collaborate closely with the Product team to define scope, shape technical solutions, and investigate new platform capabilities and features.
• Contribute to engineering excellence by participating in code reviews, architectural discussions, and the continuous improvement of development standards across the team.
• Substantial professional experience working as a senior backend engineer within high-ownership product engineering teams.
• Strong expertise in at least one modern backend programming language such as Python, Ruby, or Go, with an emphasis on scalable system design and architectural thinking.
• Comprehensive understanding of distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience in optimizing database performance at scale, including query tuning, indexing, and partitioning across large production datasets.
• Proficiency with cloud platforms, ideally within GCP environments, although AWS experience is also advantageous.
• Practical experience with observability tools and production operations, including logging, tracing, alerting, and incident response.
• Demonstrated ability to independently deliver backend features and technical projects in fast-paced product environments.
