This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.
• Serve as the representative of the architecture.
• Establish the AI architecture vision and engineering standards for 3Pillar, creating the governance frameworks and patterns that Architects, Tech Leads, and engineers throughout the organization adhere to.
• Take technical ownership from design through to the resolution of customized solutions for complex challenges on cloud platforms, based on requirements and constraints.
• Design and supervise the implementation of enterprise-grade AI systems, including LLM-powered features, RAG pipelines, agentic frameworks, and model inference infrastructure, across intricate, multi-team projects.
• Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to identify functional and nonfunctional requirements, along with business objectives, for various scenarios.
• Provide guidance to senior and executive stakeholders on AI strategy, technology investment prioritization, risk posture, and competitive positioning, translating ambitions into technically viable, phased roadmaps.
• Evaluate and plan for the integration of new technologies.
• Consistently assess the global AI landscape, including foundation model advancements, emerging frameworks, and regulatory changes, briefing engineering and business leadership on strategic implications.
• Manage the identification of risks and strategies for risk mitigation associated with the architecture.
• Lead organizational-level AI risk management efforts, addressing vendor lock-in, data privacy, model drift, adversarial inputs, and compliance with evolving AI regulations (EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, GDPR, HIPAA).
• Influence and articulate long-term product vision, technical vision, development strategy, and roadmap.
• Foster the creation of original intellectual property: reusable AI architectural frameworks, reference architectures, accelerators, and internal tools that enhance 3Pillar’s competitive edge across engagements.
• Participate in code reviews, documentation, and the development of architectural artifacts.
• Establish and oversee 3Pillar’s AI Centre of Excellence, curating architectural patterns, governing responsible AI standards, and publishing guidance utilized throughout the engineering organization.
• Actively lead within the Architecture Practice community, mentoring Engineers and others through Communities of Practice (CoPs) or project teams, supporting the advancement of technical skills.
• Represent 3Pillar as an external thought leader at industry conferences, publish research and whitepapers, and contribute to open-source projects or standards bodies in the AI field.
• Apply architectural expertise within an Agile team, either independently or alongside a team of architects.
• Develop and implement or guide the execution of a technical vision within one or more business or technical domains, focusing on business value.
• Create architectures that align with DevOps culture and QA Automation practices.
• Incorporate AI-powered capabilities into DevOps and QA practices, including automated code reviews, intelligent test generation, and AI-assisted security scanning, to elevate engineering standards across projects.
• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.
• A minimum of 8+ years of experience/expertise as a Software Architect, with demonstrated proficiency in the specified technologies.
• A high level of English proficiency is essential for interacting with a globally distributed development team.
• Ability to communicate clearly and understandably with stakeholders, articulating the details of the designed architecture using the appropriate level of technical language.
• A natural leader with strong critical reasoning and decision-making skills.
• Extensive knowledge of SDLC processes and familiarity with actionable metrics and KPIs.
• Operational excellence in design methodologies and architectural patterns across various platforms.
• Capability to manage multiple parallel projects while employing effective time management and multitasking skills.
• Experience leading Agile software development methodologies.
• High-level design proficiency utilizing UML / C4 / ArchiMate.
• Experience with DevOps and CI/CD practices and tools.
• Ability to mentor and provide thought leadership to engineers and decision-makers throughout the organization.
• Demonstrated innovative thinking for problem-solving within teams.
• Deep, demonstrable expertise across the entire AI architecture spectrum: LLM integration, agentic systems, RAG at scale, MLOps, AI security, and AI governance.
• Proven record of defining and executing AI strategy at an organizational or program level, resulting in measurable business impact.
• Experience advising executive stakeholders on AI investment strategies, risk management, and competitive differentiation.
• Preferably possess a strong understanding of global AI regulations and policies (e.g., EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, GDPR, HIPAA AI implications) and their influence on enterprise AI architecture decisions.
• Preferably recognized internally and/or externally as an AI technical authority, through published work, conference participation, or significant influence within the organization.
