This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Oversee and direct audit engagements for venture capital funds, management companies, and associated entities from the planning stage to completion.
• Create and implement risk-based audit strategies, emphasizing investment valuation, capital activities, and fund-level risks.
• Assess and test fair value assessments of portfolio investments, including private equity, SAFEs, convertible instruments, and other intricate securities.
• Analyze capital calls, distributions, carried interest allocations, and partner capital accounts.
• Collaborate with fund administrators, valuation experts, and client finance teams to gather and verify supporting data.
• Examine audit workpapers, financial statements, and disclosures to ensure compliance with ASC 946 (Investment Companies) and GAAP.
• Offer technical advice on fair value (ASC 820), equity investments, and complex financial instruments.
• Track and update the progress of engagements, budgets, and timelines while proactively communicating with leadership and clients.
• Cultivate and sustain strong relationships with fund managers and client stakeholders, showcasing responsiveness and industry expertise.
• Guide and mentor audit staff, particularly on VC fund structures and investment-related audit methodologies, providing regular written feedback.
• Identify opportunities for process enhancements related to fund audit efficiency, data requests, and valuation review workflows.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related discipline.
• At least three (3) years of audit experience in public accounting.
• Progress on the CPA exam is required; CPA license is preferred.
• Experience in auditing venture capital, private equity, or investment funds.
• Understanding of fund structures (LP/GP), capital account reporting, and investor allocations.
• Familiarity with fair value methodologies and valuation support.
• Master’s degree in accounting or a related field is a plus.
