Research Scientist – Professional & Emerging Market Innovation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the development and assessment of professional growing media products as well as engineered substrate technologies.

• Coordinate collaborative research efforts with universities for Sun Gro laboratory, greenhouse, and field trials to enhance product performance, optimize formulations, and facilitate commercialization.

• Create technical solutions and assess substrate materials targeted at the professional horticulture and controlled environment agriculture sectors.

• Offer technical assistance to Marketing, Sales, Grower Specialists, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and R&D teams.

• Aid in the formulation of product specifications, technical claims, and positioning for performance.

• Convert technical discoveries into commercially viable recommendations and support initiatives focused on growers.

• Assist in grower trial programs, the development of the Sun Gro University webinar series, and collaborations with universities and industry partners.

• Keep track of emerging technologies, raw materials, and market trends in relation to growing media and controlled environment agriculture.

• Contribute to the development of next-generation growing media technologies that align with the company's innovation and sustainability goals.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Master’s or Doctorate in Horticulture, Soil Science, Plant Science, Controlled Environment Agriculture, or a related discipline is preferred.

• Background in growing media, substrate science, greenhouse production, or controlled environment agriculture systems is preferred.

• Proven experience in conducting laboratory, greenhouse, and field research trials.

• Familiarity with professional horticulture, ornamental, food, or cannabis production systems is preferred.

• Experience in technical product development and commercialization support is preferred.
