
Regulatory Compliance Specialist – Hydropower

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maine.
• Oversee and ensure adherence to the regulations set forth by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), along with federal and state agency requirements, while supporting initiatives for FERC relicensing and amendment applications.
• Keep precise records of regulatory compliance activities and prepare, review, and submit necessary regulatory filings, reports, and responses to both internal and external stakeholders, including FERC and state and federal agencies, in a complete, accurate, and timely manner.
• Engage with regulatory agencies and stakeholders regarding issues and requirements related to the assets under your jurisdiction.
• Offer collaborative regulatory guidance and advice for all projects in the Maine and New England South sub-regions.
• Monitor and respond to regulatory notices, correspondence, and audits in a timely and proactive manner.
• Contribute to policy development and provide training to staff on compliance-related topics. This role may involve up to 25% travel. A valid driver’s license is required, and candidates must be located in the Northeast.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Legal/Regulatory Studies, Public Administration, or a related discipline.
• Military experience or equivalent background will be considered.
• A minimum of 3+ years of experience in hydropower regulatory compliance.
• Familiarity with project management, FERC security regulations, NERC, fish passage, Part 12 regulations, Industrial Hygiene, GIS/AutoCAD, and DOE grants is preferred.
• Solid understanding of federal and state security, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to interact effectively with regulators, stakeholders, and internal leadership.
• Proficiency in compliance management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and document tracking tools.
• Ability to work autonomously in a remote setting, manage multiple priorities, and adhere to strict deadlines.
