This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.
• Define UX Patterns for AI Agents: Develop collaboration strategies for security teams and autonomous AI agents, including how investigations are presented, trust is built, and how humans guide the agent efficiently. You will be creating innovative patterns rather than relying on existing ones.
• Guide Product Vision Beyond Design: Function as a product-focused designer — influencing the roadmap, challenging specifications, and impacting leadership decisions through research and business insights. The focus is on "what we should create and why," alongside "how it should appear."
• Manage the Product Surface from Start to Finish: Oversee features from initial problem definition to the final product launch, closely collaborating with PMs and engineers — including backend teams. Conduct discovery, rapidly prototype, validate with users, and remain engaged with the implementation process. Avoid simply passing designs to engineering teams.
• Develop the Design System: Construct and expand a component-based design system that will serve as the cornerstone for all our outputs. Create frameworks for AI-human collaboration that can evolve as the team grows.
• Innovate AI-Assisted Design Processes: Leverage AI tools to enhance ideation, prototyping, and exploratory work — and establish the methodologies that the team will adopt. Your daily workflow will itself be a valuable contribution.
• Convert Research into Design: Conduct customer research, engage directly with security teams, and transform your findings into tangible products. Utilize AI-assisted analysis to expedite the transition from insight to prototype within days instead of weeks.
• Establish Quality Standards: Define what excellence looks like for product design at Maze concerning craft, consistency, and customer impact — laying the groundwork for a design team that will grow alongside you.
• Visual Expertise for Complex UI: A portfolio that withstands thorough examination — showcasing strong color theory, intentional visual hierarchy, and thoughtful information architecture for intricate workflows. This is a fundamental requirement, not merely a preference. Your interview will delve into specific design decisions and their rationale.
• Proven Product Design Experience: 4-7 years of professional experience in product design, with a history of shipped work in B2B SaaS. While we are flexible on years, demonstrated skill and clear ownership are more important than the duration of experience.
• Designing for Data-Rich B2B Interfaces: Direct experience in crafting solutions for complex workflows, high data density, and technical user bases. This includes dashboards, investigative tools, developer products, and security platforms where information density and decision support are critical.
• Utilizing AI as a Tool, Not a Crutch: You regularly incorporate AI tools (Figma AI, Cursor, v0, Midjourney, ChatGPT/Claude, etc.) into your workflow and can discuss their strengths and limitations. Importantly, every design decision you deliver must stand on its own — AI enhances your productivity, it does not replace foundational skills.
• Strategic Product Thinking: A history of influencing product direction rather than merely executing briefs. You have guided decisions on what to create through research, framed challenges for leadership, and made impactful business decisions, ideally in contexts where you operated without a dedicated PM.
• Strong Collaboration with Engineers: A proven record of delivering work in close partnership with engineers — including backend teams. Engage in implementation discussions, work with design tokens, comprehend the systems into which your designs fit, and build consensus rather than circumventing obstacles.
• Experience with Design Systems: Background in developing or significantly contributing to a design system within a production product. You think in terms of components, tokens, and patterns rather than isolated screens.
• User-Centric Discovery Approach: Comfortable conducting direct user discovery, synthesizing insights, and using that knowledge to inform development decisions. You do not wait for research to be provided to you.
• Shape an Emerging Design Landscape: The role of AI agents in security presents a genuinely novel challenge. The interaction models, trust frameworks, and workflows are yet to be defined — you will create them.
• Accelerated Path to Design Leadership: This position is foundational for our team, and we seek someone looking for a long-term career, not just a temporary role. As the team expands, the natural trajectory is from IC → Lead → Head of Design. If you have aspirations for leadership, you will have the opportunity to realize them. If you prefer to remain hands-on, the scope for individual contribution will grow with the product.
• Ambitious and Challenging Work: We are leveraging generative AI (LLMs and agents) to address one of the most urgent issues in cybersecurity — bridging the gap between vulnerability identification and actionable solutions. You'll be designing at the forefront of this industry.
• Work with an Expert Team: Collaborate with experienced leaders from Big Tech and Scale-ups. Our team has been integral to multiple acquisitions and an IPO.
• Contribute to Meaningful Work: Cybersecurity serves as a force for good. The designs you create will have a direct impact on how security teams safeguard organizations globally.
• Participate in Building an AI-Native Company: We are establishing a new company in the AI era, offering the chance to design everything from scratch — including the design function itself. You'll help pioneer AI-assisted design practices and set new benchmarks.
