Principal Data Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +15 more states.

📋 Description

• Define and enhance the data architecture across all CFC systems and platforms.

• Establish distinct data domains, system boundaries, and integration patterns.

• Evaluate current and future data requirements of the organization and translate them into architectural direction.

• Develop sustainable data architecture frameworks that balance scalability, maintainability, and delivery limitations.

• Design and uphold conceptual, logical, and physical data models that represent CFC’s key entities, relationships, and metrics.

• Define, document, and manage source system schemas, including canonical fields, data types, naming conventions, and versioning strategies.

• Establish systems of record and reference for critical domains like accounts, licenses, users, and programs.

• Ensure uniform implementation of data models across operational systems.

• Create comprehensive documentation that fosters shared understanding among technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Architect and facilitate data flows between CFC systems to support operations, analytics, research, and decision-making processes.

• Design integration and transformation methodologies that maintain semantic integrity.

• Oversee large-scale data integration, transformation, and storage strategies for reliable analytics.

• Monitor and refine data flows to minimize duplication, fragility, and unnecessary complexity.

• Integrate privacy, security, and compliance requirements directly into data models and integrations.

• Collaborate with IT, security, and legal teams to ensure architecture aligns with regulatory and policy requirements.

• Ensure that privacy and security protocols, including field-level encryption, role-based access control, deletion, and auditing, are consistently supported within CFC's data architecture.

• Define data quality standards and validation strategies, including the management of schema drift over time.

• Enablement & Collaboration.

• Collaborate closely with engineers, analysts, researchers, data stewards, and business partners.

• Act as a subject-matter expert on CFC’s data architecture.

• Communicate complex data concepts effectively to a variety of audiences.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in designing and delivering data solutions, including at least 5 years in a data architecture role.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Extensive experience with relational databases and SQL.

• At least 2 years of experience working with Lakehouse architectures, including Delta Lake technologies and medallion layer data modeling.

• Proven experience designing and maintaining enterprise-scale data models and source schemas.

• Familiarity with data integration, transformation, and cleansing technologies.

• Strong comprehension of data security, privacy, and compliance principles.

• Experience with cloud-based platforms (Azure preferred).

• Experience with custom-built data systems, semi-structured data, data quality challenges, and data optimization.

• Capability to analyze undocumented data structures, identify source-to-target mappings, and reveal hidden data dependencies.
