Nuclear Physical Security Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Assist in the creation of Physical Security Programs and ensure that regulatory requirements are identified and executed in line with TerraPower's design and licensing strategies.

• Contribute to the definition and execution of the design and licensing strategy for Physical Security Programs.

• Create physical security programs, encompassing Access Authorization and Fitness For Duty, throughout construction, fuel delivery, and operational phases.

• Engage in discussions with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, including licensing talks, topical reports, reactor licensing documentation, and responses to additional information requests.

• Aid in licensing actions related to Physical Security Programs for both construction and operational phases.

• Support the design, construction, and implementation of physical protection systems, which include barriers, access control, intrusion detection and assessment systems, training facilities, and security response roles.

• Create security life cycle documents, project plans, concept of operation plans, procedures, and implementation strategies.

• Formulate and execute physical security plans, training and qualification plans, and contingency response plans.

• Conduct nuclear security assessments that support site security protective strategies and contingency response plans.

• Act as a security liaison for both internal and external stakeholders.

• Collaborate with design personnel to ensure that designs and modifications comply with physical security regulatory requirements.

• Prepare, review, and maintain licensing documentation.

• Interface with TerraPower's technical discipline teams, partners, and contractors.

• Serve as a subject matter expert for Access Authorization and Fitness For Duty protocols.

• Develop and conduct training and communications regarding Access Authorization, Fitness For Duty, Behavior Observation, and fatigue management.

• Assist in nuclear security program audits and assessments.

• Foster a culture of high performance, morale, teamwork, and industrial safety.


⛳️ Requirements

• An Associate’s degree from an accredited institution.

• 15 years of hands-on experience in developing and implementing nuclear security programs within operating plants and/or nuclear new-build projects.

• Comprehensive knowledge and compliance with U.S. NRC 10 CFR regulations, along with related NRC and Nuclear Energy Institute guidance.

• Experience in formulating strategies for nuclear physical security program implementation, project plans, and physical security design concepts.

• Proven experience in developing security programs from the construction phase of new nuclear plants through to operational stages.

• Awareness of current trends and nuclear industry developments concerning physical security program implementation.

• Ability and commitment to adhere to stringent quality assurance standards.

• Capacity to work independently, fulfill assigned responsibilities, and manage deadlines with minimal guidance.

• Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Adobe Professional.

• Ability to manage multiple multidisciplinary tasks concurrently.

• Experience in interactions with Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff.

• Project management experience, including familiarity with project management tools.

• Outstanding technical writing, communication, and presentation abilities.

• High level of trustworthiness and integrity.

• Must fulfill qualification criteria as per ANSI/ANS 3.1, including relevant nuclear industry experience where applicable.

• Ability to navigate an industrial environment and provide initial fire response capabilities.

• Capability to perform or endure extended periods of sitting/standing, bending/stooping, grasping/gripping, fine motor tasks, climbing stairs, typing/keyboard work, and visual/audio-focused tasks.

• Ability to work in a standard working environment for over 8 hours a day.

• Willingness and capacity to travel 0–25% of the time.

• Must confirm U.S. citizenship or national status, asylee, refugee, or lawful permanent resident status for export-control review; foreign nationals are subject to U.S. Government export-control regulations.
