This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.
• Transform Large Datasets into Manageable Sizes: Implement level-of-detail downsampling, viewport culling, sub-pixel zoom/pan, and time-aligned overlays at interactive frame rates on tablets.
• Render the PQ Vocabulary: Create oscillographic waveforms with cycle markers, RMS-vs-time strip charts, harmonic spectrum bars up to the 50th order, phasor diagrams, harmonic heatmaps, CBEMA/ITIC tolerance curves, scatter/PDF plots, and event timelines.
• Design Analysis-Grade Interactions: Ensure smooth pinch/scroll on touch, trackpad, and mouse-wheel; include crosshair with multi-series readout; implement brush-to-zoom; synchronize cursors across stacked charts; and enable drill-down on event markers.
• Achieve Visual Precision: Develop color palettes that perform well on both screen and print, maintain accessible contrast, and consider type and tick spacing in line with expert reading habits.
• Conduct Relentless Profiling: Engage in performance benchmarking and profiling to enhance user experience and optimize metrics footprint.
• Deliver Usable v1, Then Iterate: Produce the first version of a new chart within a week, refining it with team input and real users in an open environment.
• Manage the Chart Engine: Participate in on-call rotation for rendering and performance regressions, establishing each as a permanent benchmark.
• Custom Chart Engineering: Developed complex visualizations that exceed the capabilities of off-the-shelf libraries, rather than merely configuring them.
• Interaction-Design Instinct: Understand the nuances of zoom, pan, brush, crosshair, and drill-down; you recognize what constitutes quality in these interactions and have experience building them.
• Large-Dataset Performance Discipline: Familiarity with LOD downsampling, viewport culling, profiling tools, and frame-time budgets on real lower-end devices.
• Visual Taste Plus Engineering Rigor: Equally adept in Figma and using a profiler.
• Operational Ownership: Willingness to be on call for the rendering layer you develop, including addressing platform-specific regressions.
• Listener Mindset: Inquire with expert users about their chart reading habits before determining the best way to visualize data.
• Desirable (but not mandatory): Previous experience in data visualization-heavy roles such as trading-desk frontends, BI tools (like Tableau, Power BI), genomics/biomedical visualization, or scientific software.
• Background in signal-intensive domains where waveforms or spectra serve as the primary medium.
• Experience with golden-testing or visual-regression for charts.
• Test-driven development as the standard practice for non-rendering segments of the chart engine.
• Visualization-First Product: Charts are central to the user experience, not merely an ancillary feature.
• Specialist Team: Collaborate with a dedicated power-quality analyst, lead architect, data-processing engineer, and hardware product teams.
• Real-World Dataset Complexity: Work with multi-channel, multi-phase, multi-aggregation-interval, gigabyte-scale recordings.
